NASA World Wind 1.4 and Windows Vista

I know Chad has already covered this (it is also mentioned in the FAQ and Release notes) but the message doesn’t seem to be getting through so I’ll try too.

NASA World Wind 1.4 does not officially support Windows Vista, however several users have it running under Vista with no problems.

To get World Wind to play nice with Vista you must turn off UAC and reboot your PC prior to installing World Wind, when using World Wind you must leave UAC turned off.

The reason for this conflict is that UAC zealously protects the programs files directory, World Wind and many 3rd party plug-ins need to write temporary or configuration data to the World Wind folder within this directory. Another possible (untested) fix could be installing World Wind outside of the program files directory.
